The Iwasaki Library at Emerson College is looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual to join a creative and dynamic staff dedicated to providing access to library materials in print and electronic formats. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Assistant Director for Technology and Access Services and the Assistant Director for Information Services, the Library Operations Assistant will be responsible for: Opening the library Monday-Friday at 7:45 a.m. on non-holidays when courses are in session, including days when the College has an emergency closing. This position is considered essential staff for that purpose. Lending by Emerson’s library to other libraries utilizing Online Computer Library Center, Fenway Libraries Online, Massachusetts Virtual Catalog, commercial supplier vendors, and other online systems, including maintaining records, preparing materials for pick up, and processing delivered materials. Maintaining the periodicals collection by checking in newspapers, shelving new materials, reshelving used materials, and training and overseeing the daily activities of 2-3 student assistants. Monitoring photocopiers, microfilm reader-printers, and other printers by maintaining and ordering supplies, correcting simple problems, and reporting more complex problems to service technician. Contributing to overall library operations by staffing the Circulation Desk as needed, and monitoring student assistants assigned to the Circulation Desk in the absence of the Circulation or Assistant Circulation Manager. Providing basic reference assistance. Collaborating with library staff on annual projects including the transfer of the thesis collection and older periodicals to remote storage and the annual maintenance of the periodicals collection in response to changes in acquisitions.
